Trama:
A Coalwood, nel West Virginia, tutti i ragazzi sono destinati a diventare minatori. Troppo basso per ottenere una borsa di studio per meriti sportivi, Homer sembra non avere alcuna chance di sfuggire al suo destino. Fino a quando un giorno il satellite sovietico Sputnik non attraversa il cielo d’ottobre cambiando le cose. Così, con l’aiuto di tre amici, il ragazzo decide di costruire un razzo e lanciarlo nello spazio.
