De Sica riprende il personaggio dello smanioso di eleganza e profumi e, se è sopportabile nella parte romana, scivola poi nella pacchianeria di lusso, come mostra la fellinata di A. Ekberg che colleziona calchi in gesso dei genitali maschili. Commediaccia greve e compiaciuta in cui Christian tenta di fondere il flautato fascino del padre con l’aggressività romanesca di Sordi senza avere né l’aplomb del primo né la ferocia del secondo.
